Lipton’s Seat is one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic viewpoints, located in the scenic tea country of Haputale. This panoramic spot, perched at an altitude of 1,970 meters, was once the favorite lookout of Sir Thomas Lipton — founder of Lipton Tea.
From here, you can see endless green tea plantations, mountain ridges, and on clear days, even the southern coastline of Sri Lanka. It’s a peaceful escape offering breathtaking sunrises, crisp mountain air, and authentic Ceylon tea experiences.
Lipton’s Seat is about 25 km from Ella and 7 km from Haputale town. Travelers can reach Dambatenne Tea Factory by car or Tuk Tuk, then continue a scenic 2 km hike or ride up to the top.

The best time to visit Lipton’s Seat is early morning, between 5:30 AM and 9:00 AM, to catch the sunrise before the mist sets in. The view is especially clear during the dry season, from January to April.
